A comprehensive overview of the basic concepts of orthopaedic nursing practice and patient care. OBJECTIVES: Describe key orthopaedic assessment priorities for specific orthopaedic conditions. - Identify nursing care needs of the patient experiencing fractures, spinal procedures, or total joint arthroplasty. - Demonstrate care of patients in casts, traction, or using orthopaedic splints/ positioning devices. - Demonstrate mobility considerations and precautions for patients with orthopaedic conditions. - Identify signs and symptoms of orthopaedic complications, appropriate prevention strategies and interventions. - Describe patient education priorities for the orthopaedic patient. - Identify standards for professional orthopaedic nursing practice.
