The Arroyo Grande City Council confirmed the appointment of Michael Martinez as Chief of Police on Wednesday.
This comes after the retirement of former Chief Beau Pryor.
According to the council agenda, Martinez served in law enforcement for 18 years and joined the Arroyo Grande Police Department in 2005.
During his time, he served various positions such as a watch commander and watch sergeant all the way to commander.
“Thank you for this opportunity to serve as your Chief of Police,” Martinez said during the meeting. “My career working for the city of Arroyo Grande has been nothing short of spectacular. From the day I started, I was welcomed with warm arms and it was then that I knew this was a special place.”
Martinez has been serving for the last 10 years as SWAT team leader and also as a law enforcement instructor at Allan Hancock College.
