ACUE’S Creating an Inclusive and Supporting Learning Environment Program Informational Sessions
In partnership with the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE), California Community College Chancellor’s Office is excited to offer faculty an opportunity to participate in one of ACUE’s programs in effective teaching practices.
Starting in January 2023, faculty will be able to join one of ACUE’s microcredential cohorts:
Inspiring Inquiry and Preparing Lifelong Learners
Addresses practices from motivating students to using visualization tools that deepen learning and help students take greater ownership for their own learning. Faculty will learn practices from the following modules:
- Motivating Your Students
- Providing Clear Directions and Explanations
- Using Concept Maps and Other Visualization Tools
- Using Student Achievement and Feedback to Improve Your Teaching
- Using Advanced Questioning Techniques
- Developing Self-Directed Learners
Designing Student-Centered Courses
Addresses the pedagogical approaches, as well as some technical basics, to help you design a course and course materials that support student success. Faculty will learn practices from the following modules:
- Establishing Powerful Learning Outcomes
- Aligning Assessments with Course Outcomes
- Aligning Activities and Assignments with Course Outcomes
- Developing Fair, Consistent, and Transparent Grading Practices
- Developing and Using Rubrics and Checklists
- Preparing an Effective Syllabus
Inclusive Teaching for Equitable Learning
Provides instructors with proven strategies to create a more equitable and just learning environment. Faculty will learn practices from the following modules:
- Managing the Impact of Bias
- Reducing Microaggressions in Learning Environments
- Addressing Imposter Phenomenon and Stereotype Threat
- Creating Inclusive Learning Environments
- Designing Equity-Centered Courses
Over the course of 6-8 weeks, you’ll learn about and implement a series of research-based teaching practices shown to improve student outcomes. Upon course completion, you will earn a nationally-recognized Microcredential, which are theonly college teaching credential endorsed by the American Council on Education (ACE).
