Paso Robles High School and Cuesta College have continued their decade-long partnership in providing dual enrollment courses to high school students with their new course, Aviation Mechanics (AVMT) High School Program.
“We are excited about other partnerships with Cuesta College to provide career pathways to high wage and high demand jobs in our county and countrywide,” said PRJUSD director of curriculum and instruction in secondary schools Anthony Overton.
The AVMT High School Program will offer two classes: AVMT 110 and AVMT 120 to provide the basics of aviation mechanics. After passing these classes, students become eligible to take the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) exam and can then enroll in the Airframe or Powerplant courses. Students will learn the technical work of this industry, including inspection and maintenance of aviation equipment, learning FAA compliance, and more.
The program runs from Oct. 1 to May 22. AVMT 110 will be held at the PRHS Auto Shop on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 6:20 p.m. and every other Saturday at the San Luis Obispo Airport from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“Aviation Maintenance Technicians are the backbone of aviation safety…this is your chance to dive into the world of aviation maintenance with courses AVMT 110 and AVMT 120,” reads the Cuesta College website.
